Shore Birds don't disappoint!
At the last Creative Art Workshops Gala, Cheryl bid and won a very nice dinner at a place in Madison Connecticut called Elizabeth's Cafe. Madison is about a 30 minute car ride from downtown New Haven (or you can take a train). However, to make it interesting we packed up the camera, binoculars and our scope and took the long way there to do some birding along the shoreline.
We were not disappointed with
Snowy Egret,
smaller than the Great Egret with a black bill.
Something I said?
Poetry In Motion
Great Egret Reflecting
Note the orange bill.
Then we came upon a Great Egret on a nest of twigs.
Work it for the camera!
Off to Linden Shores in Branford to check
out an Osprey platform in a secluded marsh.
This nest has three chicks!
On prowl, a rival perhaps
Eye on the prize,
but here comes Mr Right Osprey...
Nest Sweet Nest
two chicks can be seen.
Meanwhile, I heard lots of Red Winged Blackbirds,
and they turned out to
be female Red Wing Blackbirds.
Cheryl and I don't think we've ever
seen one or at least identified it as such.
They would swarm the marsh
Female Redwing Blackbird
Sing it Baby!
Female Redwing Blackbird
She's outta here!
Now here comes a Snowy Egret on
a graceful flyby...
See you later!
Then, I thought these were ducks or
some sort of large shorebird popping up out
of the marsh and swooping around
just to settle again with a mate.
Another first for both Cheryl and I.
The Eastern Willet!

Noisy quackers these Willets!
Lastly here, another Osprey fly by
Just before we went to dinner,
we went through Hammonasset Park,
but only saw a deer and a bunny!
